The thing: AI in the workforce (particularly in tech)
What people are reacting to: Those pushing for further AI adoption are fearmongering about being early to the AI "revolution" before you become irrelevant, while those against it are rejecting AI on principle
What they are missing: The more obvious thing being missed (that a decent amount have noticed) is that those who push for AI in the workforce often have a financial incentive to adopt this perspective. But the thing I don't see being talked about by those against the fearmongerers is the fundamental shift in the relation between user and computer these people are advocating for. To be proficient with AI is not a demonstration of skill or capability with computing, but a demonstration of work efficiency (how efficient AI-assisted workers actually are notwithstanding). Therefore, to be anti-AI, one must not reject computers, but understand how they work like a car mechanic understands an engine. One must be intentional with their computers, not efficient with them.
